- Consuming Caffeine and Alcohol. Both caffeine and alcohol can dehydrate your body and limit the positive effects that acupuncture has on your body. As acupuncture is focused on the flow of energy throughout your body, it is necessary to keep as hydrated as possible to encourage this flow of energy. Water also helps to flush out toxins from the body and these 2 substances may do the opposite.
- Participating in Vigorous Exercise. Intense exercise, such as running or lifting heavy weights, should be left for another day. After receiving an acupuncture treatment, it’s best to take it easy and limit movement to light exercise such as walking and stretching. High levels of sweating can cause some irritation where the acupuncture treatment was done; therefore, it is best to avoid activities that cause this.
