What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is the insertion of ultra-fine needles at precise points on the body to encourage natural healing. The result is improved mood and energy, reduced pain and improved function in affected areas of the body.
According to ancient Chinese theories, the body is a network of interacting energies. The even distribution and smooth flow of these energies will maintain health. Any interruption, depletion or stagnation in these energies will lead to disease. The goal of acupuncture is to correct imbalances in the flow and restore health through stimulation.
The modern scientific explanation is that needling the acupuncture points stimulates the release of chemicals in the muscles, spinal cord, and brain. This release of chemicals will lead to reduced pain and inflammation, and stimulate the body’s own internal regulating system to promote healing.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I book an acupuncture visit?
You can book an “Initial Naturopathic Acupuncture Visit” with Dr. Diane Peters (Naturopathic Doctor) and Dr. Cecilia Ho (Naturopathic Doctor and Registered Acupuncturist). Acupuncture received by both practitioners can be submitted to your extended healthcare benefits under naturopath benefits. Because Dr. Ho is also a registered acupuncturist, acupuncture visits with her can be submitted under acupuncturist benefits. In this case, please select “Initial Acupuncture Visit” when booking with Dr. Ho if the intent is to submit your visit under acupuncturist benefits.
Is acupuncture covered under OHIP?
No. However, most extended healthcare plans do cover the cost of your visits. Check with your employer to find out whether your benefits package includes naturopathic acupuncture performed by a naturopathic doctor or acupuncture performed by a registered acupuncturist.
Do you do direct billing?
Yes, we do provide direct billing. Please inquire with our front desk to confirm if we can submit for your insurance companyy.
