Neck pain is one of the most common issues we deal with here at Active Integrative Medicine. This condition can stem from all kinds of things, from spending too much time hunched over a desk at work to stress. It’s a good idea to seek chiropractic care for sore neck treatment, but many people are interested in small things they can do between appointments to support long-term relief. These five simple stretches can help relieve a sore neck and improve flexibility and are a good addition to professional care.
- Neck Tilts – Sit or stand with your back straight. Slowly tilt your head toward your right, trying to bring your ear as close to your shoulder as possible. Hold for 15 to 30 seconds, breathing deeply, and then come back to center. Repeat on the left side.
- Chin Tucks – Keep your head level and gently tuck your chin in as though you are trying to give yourself a double chin. Hold for 5 to 10 seconds, then release. Breathe deeply, and repeat the process 10 times.
- Neck Rotation – Slowly turn your head to the right, trying to look over your shoulder. Hold for 15 to 30 seconds, breathing deeply, then rotate back to center. Repeat the process for the left side.
- Shoulder Shrugs – Lift your shoulders up toward your ears, hold for 5 to 10 seconds, and then slowly lower them. Repeat 10 times.
- Upper Trapezius Stretch – Sit or stand with your left hand under your left thigh. With your right hand, gently pull your head toward the right side. Hold for 15 to 30 seconds, breathing deeply. Return to center and repeat on the opposite side.
While these stretches are a great temporary relief for a sore neck, they may not address the root cause of your pain. For long-lasting results, we encourage you to contact our clinic to schedule a consultation, where we can create a customized plan for addressing your sore neck and achieving lasting relief.
